Managing clients and their behaviors is something that we deal with on a daily basis and our goal for every day is to help them to be successful. As Direct Support Professionals we can help them succeed by helping to increase their independence and functional performance. For example, we can help them to meet their daily goals, help make them feel good about themselves, and help them to learn new things.
The way we can help is to acknowledge that everything is a behavior. So our goal is to replace behaviors we want to decrease with those behaviors we want to increase.
1) Explain what ABC stands for?
2) When should you intervene to prevent a behavior? Give an example of how to change a behavior?

ABC stands for: Antecedent-what happens before the behavior? Behavior-what is the behavior? Consequence-what happens after the behavior? Try to intervene even before a behavior occurs. Some examples could be to balance out activities throughout the day or have some incentive plans/rewards charts, etc. We want to reinforce behaviors we want and punish behaviors we don’t want.
The ABC’s stand for Antecedent, Behavior, and Consequence. We should intervene before a behavior happens and before it starts to increase.
Antecedents = before behavior
Behavior = during a behavior.
Consequence = after a behavior was done
When should you intervene on behavior?
When the behavior starts to increase.
1.A= Antecedent 2.B= Behavior 3.C= Consequence What should you intervene to prevent a behavior? Set rules and procedures Positive relationship Develop a plan for how to deal with different problems behaviors at different levels of severity.
1. ABC means Antecedent, behavior, and consequence. This means, what happened before during and after a behavior.
2. You should intervene before a behavior happens, sometimes we know the triggers and what they do before a behavior.
We can change it by offering g them some other options.
