Client Right #3: "A right to participate in an appropriate program of publicly supported education, regardless of degree of disability."
AWOL is when a client goes absent without official leave; absent often without notice or permission. In case a client does go AWOL we must be aware of the procedures to be followed during/after an initial AWOL.
Go into Dropbox, then:
- Team folder
- Training folder
- Monthly Trainings folder
And read all AWOL Trainings and Missing Client information.

-Contact law enforcement
-Contact manager
-Get proper documents ready
-Maintain open communication with hospitals for possible admissions or receiving of client
1. Call police giving all necessary information about the individual.
2. Call Manager.
3. Write the SIR and UII reports
After an awol has taken place, it is instrumental that staff maintains a transparent line of communication with regard to other staff and management. It is also crucial to watch the client from a safe distance and document the incident properly. Furthermore, staff should unequivocally contact police/authorities and serve as a helpful agent in aiding their return/safety.

-Keep an eye on the client from a safe distance
-Communicate with a co-workers
-Contact local law enforcement
-Contact house manager after you’ve made contact with authorities
