1) What do you do after an AWOL has taken place?

After an AWOL has taken place you shadow the client from a safe distance.
.Communicate with the other staff on shift
. Contact your local law enforcement and provide them with proper description of what occurred.
. Contact your house manager letting them know of the incident.
. Do a SIR/UII report of incident.
After an AWOL, staff must try to communicate with the clients but keeping a safe distance, while thats being done the other staff should let the supervisor know what happening and make sure that the other staff has contacted law enforcement as well. Staff must have the right documentation to give at to the law enforcement. Staff must remember to document everything that happen that means time, date, where they went, their clothing. It’s every important to know these things in case if it happens.
Follow client at a safe distance, communicate with other staff to help you, contact law enforcement once they have been notified make sure to notify house manager, and also make sure to have all proper documents available and ready to give to law enforcement. All proper documents include face sheet, medication list along with diagnosis. It is also important to document time and date client left, which direction they went in, what client was wearing and any other information you might think is important.
After an AWOL has taken place, an employee should attempt to communicate and placate the client. This is definitely something staff should aim to do as a collective effort. Aside that, employees should also document everything and complete certain forms like an SIR. Management should also be informed and local law enforcement should be contacted and made aware.
1) What do you do after an AWOL has taken place?
When a client goes absent without official leave, the caregiver should follow the client at a safe enough distance. Caregiver should communicate to their supervisor about the clients AWOL.
If the client is out of sight or no where to be seen the next steps would be to search all around the premises. Immediately call local law enforcement, supervisor and the clients family to report the date and time last seen and the cloths they wore. Additionally, document a face sheet, medication list and their full diagnosis description. Keep in contact with near hospitals to check if a client has been admitted.
