Each person residing or receiving services in a facility has many rights. Some of these rights include the right to be treated with dignity and given humane care. The right to be safe and have comfortable accommodations and furnishings to meet their needs. They have the right to be free from corporal or unusual punishment.

People in the special needs community have a ALL the same rights as every other individual does.
1. The right to feeling safe and comfortable with their surroundings and the people in them.
2. The right to be free from any judgement of their character due to their disability as well as any other form of bullying.
3. Freedom of speech is very important in making someone feel included and that their opinion matters and to not feel excluded in any situation.
Everyone has the right to be respected, whether they have disabilities or not.

People with developmental disabilities have rights just as those without do. Some include; a right to privacy and humany care, religious freedom, and visits from loved ones.
A person with developmental disabilities have the following rights:
1. A right to treatment and habilitation services and supports in the least restrictive environment. Treatment and habilitation services and supports should foster the developmental potential of the person and be directed toward the achievement of the most independent, productive, and normal lives possible. Such services shall protect the personal liberty of the individual and shall be provided with the least restrictive conditions necessary to achieve the purposes of the treatment, services or supports.
2. A right to dignity, privacy, and humane care.
3. A right to participate in an appropriate program of publicly supported education, regardless of degree of disability.
4. A right to prompt medical care and treatment.
