Client Right #5: "A right to religious freedom and practice."


Food Training: All of us need food to keep us alive and healthy. However, food can also make us sick if it is not prepared and/or served properly. As a direct care professional it is important to make sure people don't get sick from the foods and drinks you prepare and serve them. Hands that are not thoroughly washed are one of the main reasons why people get sick from the food they eat. This can be prevented by washing your hands often!

The proper way for washing hands involve adding soap and rinsing for more than 30 seconds. Remember to thoroughly getting soap in every crevice to make sure to kill all germs. To make sure that food is safe from contamination is making sure you prepare it on a clean kitchen, countertop, and clean utensils.

Before handling or serving food, it is important to wash your hands to prevent spreading germs and bacteria. First, wet your hands with clean running water and apply soap. Then scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds, making sure to clean the front and back of your hands, between your fingers, under your fingernails, and around your wrists. After scrubbing, rinse your hands thoroughly under clean running water and dry them with a clean paper towel or air dryer. Use one time use gloves when handling ready-to-eat foods.

• use warm water & soap

• lather thoroughly for 20 secs scrub palms, back of hand, between fingers, under fingernails & wrist

• rinse well remove all germs

• dry completely with paper towel or air dry


Always wash hands properly, keep raw & cooked foods separated, cover food properly with wraps or food containers, never use the same cutting board or utensils for raw meat & vegetables, anyone with a illness should not prepare or serve food.
