Food Handling/Preparing Food Training

All of us need food to keep us alive and healthy. However, food can also make us sick if it is not prepared and/or served properly. As a direct care professional it is important to make sure people don't get sick from the foods and drinks you prepare and serve them. Hands that are not thoroughly washed are one of the main reasons why people get sick from the food they eat. This can be prevented by washing your hands often!

1. Wet hand and apply soap

2. Rub the palms together

3. Rub the back of the hands

4. Rub the back of the fingers

5. Rub and clean the thumbs

6. Rub and clean the tips of the fingers

7. Rinse the hands


Preparing foods properly to avoid contaminated

1. Practicing proper personal hygiene

2. Always check use-by-date

3. Keep foods at appropriate temperature


Correct storage

1. Make sure there is ideal ventilation in order to control humidity and inhibit the growth of the mold and harmful bacteria.

2. Make sure it clearly labels the contents of the package date made and the use-by-date

1) Use warm water and soap, scrub your hands and forearms for at least 20 seconds scrubbing between your fingers and fingernails, rinse your hands in warm running water, dry your hands with a single-use towel.

2) Wash your hands before you begin working and whenever they might be contaminated. Do not wear jewelry on hands and arms. Avoid touching food with bare hands. Proper Hand Washing:

Wet your hands, wrists, and arms.

Apply soap.

Scrub hands, wrists, fingernails and arms vigorously for 10 – 15 seconds.

Rinse the soap off of your hands, wrists, and arms thoroughly.

Dry off with a single use paper towel
