When it comes to safety in the workplace it is everyone's responsibility to observe and identify if something needs to be replaced, moved or fixed to prevent a possible injury. What does FOD stand for? A foreign object debris (a substance, debris,
loose hardware, or article alien to a vehicle or system which could potentially cause damage.)
Let's all strive for positive thinking in the work field. An example would be: "Let me clean up this mess before someone gets hurt." This is a great example of observing what is around you to potentially help prevent something bad from happening. An example of negative thinking is: "I did not leave it there; I did not do it that is not my mess." This type of thinking will always hurt someone directly or indirectly.
If we all work together as a team we can be a part of the solution when it comes to minimizing hazardous situations. In this month's blog please discuss/comment below what are some things you can look out for and what you can do to help ensure everyone's safety inside the homes.

In order to ensure the workplace is safe for everyone, you must be observant to anything and everything around your environment. There may be things that were done when staff wasn’t around by the residents, so doing a quick once-over of everything before you leave a shift is always good.
Prevention is key. Always make sure you are aware of your surroundings no matter where you are whether you are inside or outside of the facility. If there is an obstruction of any kind, remove it before it can cause any possible harm to staff or residents. Make sure ALL walkways, entrances and staircases are clear of any debris or objects of any kind and make sure to communicate this to all staff to make the workplace as safe as possible for everyone.
How to prevent threatening and hazardous situations in the workplace:
1. Establish a zero tolerance for workplace violence against or by other employees.
2. Conduct employee training so all staff members can identify workplace violence situations, including proper communication, reporting and follow-up.
3. Conduct sexual harassment training for all staff members with additional training for supervisors and managers to administer the policy.
4. Identify safety and accident risks, and establish policies to mitigate them.
5. Restrict employees from carrying weapons or other dangerous materials within the workplace.
6. Review all policies on a regular basis to maximize their effectiveness.

Some things that we can look out for to ensure everyone's safety is to make sure that when we get on shift we look around and check to see if things are in their place and things are not left out. We want to make sure that if there is something out of place whether it happened on our shift or previous shift that we take care of it. If we notice a spill we want to make sure that we take care of it right away and not leave …
FOD stand for Equipment damage, injury to personnel, protection delays, safety, violences. The best way to protect someone is to remove or eliminate the hazard from the workplace using the following methods, Equipment or work methods with safer and less hazardous. Ones to eliminate the hazard altogether.
