Client Right #8: "A right to be free from harm, including unnecessary physical restraint, or isolation, excessive medication, abuse, or neglect."
Diabetes is the condition in which the body does not properly process blood sugar.
Most people will be able to handle all or almost all routine diabetes care by themselves. Some people, because of age, developmental level, or inexperience, will need help from staff.
For the blog:
1) Briefly describe the instructions for using a glucose meter.
2) Name one thing that can help with managing diabetes.

The proper way to use a glucose meter is; wash and dry your hands, clean the fingertip with an alcohol wipe and let it dry completely, prepare lancet, prick the side of the fingertip with the lancet, get a small drop of blood then apply the test strip, wait for the reading then record results (normal rage 70-140). A way that you can help clients with diabetes is managing their foods makin sure their able to eat it( healthy foods) make sure the sugars are not high.
When using a glucose meter, Wash and dry your hands, Prick the finger with a lancet, Get a small drop of blood, Put the blood on the test strip and Follow the meter’s instructions and Record the blood sugar result, to help manage diabetes, Encourage regular exercise as recommended, and Help make sure meals and snacks are healthy and balanced and assure they don't have too much sugar or caffeine
Wash and dry hands (or clean the fingertip with an alcohol wipe and let it dry)
Insert a test strip into the meter
Use the lancet device to prick the side of the fingertip
Gently squeeze to get a small drop of blood
Touch the test strip to the blood drop until the meter beeps or indicates it has enough
Read and record the blood sugar result
Dispose of the lancet and strip safely (sharps container)
Maintaining a consistent, balanced diet (regular meal timing and portion control).
1. Wash your hands with soap & water
2. Insert new test strip inside glucose meter
3. Prepare the lancet
4. Prick the side of your fingertip with the lancet
5. Get a small drop amount of blood & apply it to the designated area of the test strip
6. Wait for reading
7. Record the results
One thing that can help manage diabetes is regular physical activities staying hydrated & eating balanced meals with controlled portions.
Proper steps for using a glucose meter are:
-Wash your hands with soap and warm water and dry completely or clean the area with alcohol and dry completely.
-Prick the fingertip with a lancet.
-Hold the hand down and hold the finger until a small drop of blood appears; catch the blood with the test strip.
-Follow the instructions for inserting the test strip and using the SMBG meter.
-Record the test result. Normal range is 70-140
When helping a client to manage his/her diabetes it may be beneficial to have certain exercise requirements for them to follow and also making sure their meals and snacks are healthy. Also making sure they are not consuming too many soft drinks, etc.
