Diabetes Management

Diabetes is the condition in which the body does not properly process blood sugar.

Most people will be able to handle all or almost all routine diabetes care by themselves. Some people, because of age, developmental level, or inexperience, will need help from staff.

1) Briefly describe the instructions for using glucose meters.

2) Name one thing that can help with managing diabetes.

  1. After washing your hands, insert a test strip into your meter.

  2. Use your lancing device on the side of your fingertip to get a drop of blood.

  3. Touch and hold the edge of the test strip to the drop of blood and wait for the result.

  4. Your blood glucose level will appear on the meter's display.

Physical activity is another important part of your diabetes management plan. When you exercise, your muscles use sugar (glucose) for energy. Regular physical activity also helps your body use insulin more efficiently. These factors work together to lower your blood sugar level.
